I was what people call a "B" student in high school. I never took AP (advanced placement) classes which people used to boost their GPAs and earn points on college applications. There was a certain crowd in high school that was obsessed with grades and ultimately getting accepted by an elite university. I had some family problems early in HS and it kind of messed up my academic progress.
After graduating, I went to a local community college and then transferred to a good state university. I earned a B.S in engineering and was accepted to an elite university to earn my masters in the same field. Today I'm making six figures and working in my desired line of work.
Many of the people who were overachievers in HS ended up either dropping out of college or majoring in a field that they decided not to pursue. My message is: don't let your performance in high school determine your future.
