Fear. "an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat."
Perhaps one of life's greatest motivators.
It's funny how fear can drive you to do something so drastically out of the ordinary. And the even funnier thing... a lot of the time the "fear" that people experience, are just beliefs. You may fear to give that presentation because you believe you will fail. You may fear to talk to that girl/guy because you believe they will reject you. You may fear helping others because you believe others will find it weird. Or perhaps the worst yet, you may fear to help yourself because you believe that you are past the point of being helped. Being saved. Being loved.
Let me tell you how wrong you are. Biblical based and non. The fear you experience, you are not alone. Out of the billions of people out there, no matter how alone you feel inside, you are never TRULY alone. You are loved. If not by anybody else, then by me. By God. And hopefully by yourself.
These fears, they can completely absorb you and blind you to the truth. They can make you think you aren't good enough, or you can't do something. In most rational cases, that's so wrong it's almost funny. You CAN do it. You WILL do it. Not simply because you have to, but because you can DESIRE to. Once you overcome fear, shame, and guilt, it opens doors you never thought were possible.
So how? Where do I start? As with anything, start small. Starting too big will just let fear capsize you. Overcome the little things. For me, it started with sharing my testimony one at a time (Helped with shyness, talking to people, and with opening up). My peak for that was sharing my testimony in Belize with a whole audience. I have other fears too, like heights. Oh man. I went to Cedar Point and rode on pretty much everything except the Dragster. This helped to overcome the irrational fears. It looks different for everyone. And it's an ongoing battle... but it's better to fight to get better than succumb and get worse.
Use fear to help you. It's pretty shocking what can happen. Use love. Because love is always stronger than fear.
