Laura Sandefer is an author and co-founder of Acton Academy, a learner-driven school that started with 7 students in a rented room in Austin, Texas and has grown to have over 130 locations in Arizona, New Mexico, Guatemala, Malaysia, and many more. They base their learning model on the hero’s journey, believing that if you spark curiosity, learning becomes an adventure with the ability to transform children’s lives.
Laura and her husband come from education and entrepreneurial backgrounds. They founded Acton Academy out of necessity, feeling that the current education system relied on outdated models that couldn’t prepare their children for the challenges they would encounter in their lives. Since it’s inception, they’ve had to learn how to document and build scalable learning systems to distribute across the globe to parents with similar education desires.

✔ Their biggest challenge in expanding from a one-room school to a global community
✔ How Acton succeeds in getting kids to take ownership of their learning
✔ How they track progress when the student is the teacher
✔ The apprenticeships and mentorships that make Acton a great environment for the children of entrepreneurs
✔ How they keep tuition below the market average, and why
