This semester, I challenged myself to wake up at 6am for various weeks. Over the last months I really found that I learned a lot of useful information that can help others. I also posted a video that you can find on YouTube if you are not a big reader. Not trying to self promote, I just really think this information can help others.
These were my major takeaways
PART I: CREATE A NIGHT ROUTINE
- My routine started at 9:00pm with 45 minutes of reading, followed by 15 minutes of stretching.
- It helped reduce my stress levels and clear my mind before falling asleep.
- Avoid using your phone as the blue light can prohibit the release of melatonin.
PART II: STAYING AWAKE
- The average person takes 3-4 days to change their sleep pattern.
- Remember tomorrow and fight through these first days.
- Once you pass this hump, maintain a consistent sleep pattern.
PART III: ACCOUNTABILITY
- Making yourself accountable increases the chances of reaching your goal exponentially.
- Working out with friends, first thing in the morning was ideal for me.
- You can also create accountability without someone else by doing things like telling your Instagram followers about your plans to wake up early.
PART IV: WHY
- Create a clear, specific, and purposeful reason to get up early.
- For me, it was to create this video.
- This is the single most important element to waking up early as you will turn to the reason "why" as soon as your alarm goes off.
